De La Salle shuts out California to close out the regular season

De La Salle certainly knows how to close out the regularly season in style.  The Spartans hosted California High School in an incredible 56-0 win.

In a four-touchdown first quarter, De La Salle quickly jumped out to a 28-point lead.  Picking up right where they let off, the Spartans added on 21 points in the second.

After the halftime break, things calmed down.  De La Salle only scored one TD in the third and none in the fourth, but continued to extinguish any attack from the Grizzlies.

Senior Anthony Sweeney needed only six completions to throw for 124 yards and three touchdowns.  On the ground, five different players each rushed for a score, including Sweeney taking one himself.  Senior Andrew Hernandez carried for 84 yards and a score on 12 touches.  Sophomore Kairee Robinson also found the endzone on one of his eight carries for 79 yards.

De La Salle’s defense was a brick wall throughout the contest.  The Spartans only allowed three first down in the entire game, giving California no chance at making any sort of impact.

Now 9-1, De La Salle ranks 11th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 3rd in California.

With the regular season behind them, the Spartans advance to the playoffs as the top-seed in the CIF North Coast Section Division 1.  With that comes the privilege of a bye in the first week.  De La Salle will face the winner of the November 13th matchup between California and James Logan High Schools.
