After dropping its first game to Trinity High School, De La Salle has been sensational, winning four consecutive contests. The Spartans first took down Serra, Servite, and Orange Lutheran. Two weeks later, De La Salle picked up where they left off with a shutout victory over Granite Bay.
Quarterback Anthony Sweeney led the charge completing 9-of-12 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns and one interception. The running back duo of seniors Antoine Custer and Andrew Hernandez found the endzone twice, once each, while gaining 274 yards on the ground. Custer picked up 143 yards on nine carries while Hernandez gained 131 yards on eight.
On the side of the ball, De La Salle’s defense shutdown Granite Bay, reeling in five interceptions. On top of that, junior Logan Nonies made a tackle for a loss that resulted in a second-quarter safety.
The Spartans started strong, gaining a 16-0 lead in the first half. It was the 21-point third quarter that pushed any hope of a Granite Bay comeback out of reach. After a scoreless fourth quarter, the game finished 37-0 for De La Salle.
At the moment, De La Salle currently sits in 16th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 3rd in California with a 4-1 record. At 7:00pm on October 9, the Spartans host San Ramon Valley looking to add another tally to the win column.
